LAVERNE WILLIAM "VERNE" ANDREWS, BIOGRAPHY

LaVerne William "Verne" ANDREWS, was born on March 03, 1922, in Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington. Verne was the second of four children: two boys and two girls, born to William Hector "Bill" ANDREWS and Rhoda Belle (Wheaton) ANDREWS.

Laverne didn't pass the physical required for Armed Service, during World War II but hauled freight, needed by the Armed Services as a Northern Pacific Railway Fireman, as did his father, and his brother who were also Firemen for Northern Pacific Railway. Laverne had continued service with Northern Pacific Railway since March of 1942.

Ironically, the main track for the Northern Pacific Railway ran right behind the Andrew's home in Pacific, Washington. If one of the gentlemen from the Andrews household was working on the railway that day it was customary that he would blow the train whistle, as a cheery greeting to the folks at home, as the train passed by. It was clear to anyone who happened to visit the Andrew's home, that the love of the "train" was a big part of the family. On the second floor of the home, a model train and track laced and crossed through the entire second floor complete with tunnels, bridges and even openings in the walls to allow passage of the train from room to room.

Laverne never married and remained at home until his death, on November 13, 1995, in Pacific, Pierce County, Washington. He was preceded in death by his father, William Hector "Bill" ANDREWS (April 24, 1893-December 09, 1951), his mother Rhoda Belle (Wheaton) ANDREWS (August 02, 1896-October 14, 1968), his brother Ira John ANDREWS (March 22, 1920- July 22, 1988) and his sister Irene Belle (Andrews) PRICE (November 06, 1923-December 07, 1976). He is survived by one sister, Lucille Annie (Andrews) SOEN. Lucille died just 13 months later, on December 15, 1996.

LaVerne was buried three days after his death, on November 16, 1995, at Mountain View Cemetery, Auburn, King County, Washington.
