or

1861        Broad Street, Hollingbourne, Kent

Slightly confusing!  Information as from census return:

Thomas BROOKER  Head        M  65 Farm Labourer born Thornham, Kent

Elizabeth F CLINCH  Lodger     M  71 Househoolder  born Bredgar, Kent

Dorcas R      Do        Dau          U   25                         born Bredhurst, Kent

Julia             Do        Gran dau  U   20                         born Bredhurst, Kent

Elizabeth A FILMER  Visitor      U   16                         born Thornham, Kent

                * Given this information I have entered an "Unknown" child for William and Elizabeth and

made Julia their daughter.  That sorts out her being "niece" to William BROOKER,

husband of Jane, in 1851, and granddaughter, I assume to Elizabeth, in 1861.

                *  There is also the problem of the ages shown but given that Julia was not with parents for

either census perhaps resulted in the uncertainty about her age.

                *  But there is also a problem about Elizabeth, her age, and also we have her elsewhere

                   on the 1861 census!

                RG9; Piece: 504; Folio: 117; Page: 7; GSU roll: 542651.

1861        Broad Street, Hollingbourne, Kent

Lodging, with her daughter Dorcas, together with "Julia (20) granddaughter" and visitor

Elizabeth FILMER (16) with Thomas BROOKER (65) Farm Labourer born Thornham, Kent

(impossible to read status, also of Elizabeth)

Elizabeth FILMER was the daughter of Elizabeth's CLINCH's daughter Elizabeth

But whose "granddaughter of Julia (20) born Bredhurst?

Elizabeth CLINCH is shown as lodger, Dorcas as daughter, and Julia as granddaughter so

as Dorcase is Elizabeth's daughter rather than Thomas BROOKERs, perhaps Julia is

Elizabeth CLINCH's granddaughter, born about 1841.  No Julia CLINCH born about 1841

has been found in the 1841 census, or on FreeBMD. More research required

Stephen and Mary Ann had decided to go to Van Diemens Land, but at the last minute decided on Canada. On the 16 Apri; 1832 the family consisting of parents, five boys and two girls, (three children had alrady died), they embarked on the tedious journey to York, now Toronto, Canada. They lost their son Elias on the voyage.

They joined the Mormon Church and were endowed in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1845.
